Polar Star Sweater - Test Knitting

Polar Star Sweater by Meg Rodger
Thank you for your interest in test knitting my pattern …
Polar Star Sweater pattern is suitable for intermediate skilled knitters, it is loose fitting with split sides and a back slightly longer than the front. All parts are knitted flat then sewn together. The sleeves are cast on at the wrist using a provisional method such that once the sweater is stitched together the cuffs are knitted down from the sleeve in the round to the desired length. The sleeves are knitted up from the wrists, continued across half of each shoulder (left & right) and are then grafted across the back and front to form a yoke. Once all sections are sewn together stitches are picked up around the neck, which is then knitted upwards to create a cowl.
A key feature in this sweater design is the polar star motif down the length of the arm that uses the Eriskay star gansey pattern as a starting point. The sweater is designed to be worn on breezy Sunday stomps or to cosy up on the sofa with a good book but will also look great in the city on a cold winters day.
Techniques: Provisional cast on; Kitchener stitch grafting; Twisted stitches (RS & WS); Yarn overs; Drop stitch.
- The test knit needs to be completed and feedback given by 6th December though comments at any stage are welcome.
- Slack – we will use the App – Slack (slack.com) to project manage the test knit. Slack can be downloaded as an App on your phone or you can set up an account on your desktop browser. Once you have agreed to test knit I will send you an invitation via email. We will then be able to share progress photos, raise questions and give feedback in one forum.
- Email feedback – if you would prefer to email me feedback, rather than use Slack, that is totally fine.
- Ravelry – you will be able to link your projects to the pattern with a Ravelry test code.
- The aim of the test knit is to check the pattern as follows: instructions are clear and the font is readable; instructions are correct with regards to achieving dimensions; stitch counts are correct at each stage; point out any types no matter how small they need to be checked.
- It is very important that you test your gauge as stated in the pattern before you start.
- The pattern must be written without amendments.
- The pattern can be knitted in any colour but to test the pattern it must be Birlinn Yarn.
If you would like to join the test knit team please email me: meg@birlinnyarn.co.uk
I will then send you the pattern, detailed test knit brief and 20% discount code which can be applied to purchase yarn for the test knit and also any other yarn you would like to order at the same time.
Many thanks
Meg
