Our Responsibility

Our island environment, culture, community and simple way of life are very important to us as a family. Values that we hope we can share with you through our products.

Our yarn is unique, small batch and authentically Hebridean. It supports the crofting culture of the islands and the associated knowledge and skills of small-scale agriculture, land, sea and wildlife, that have been passed down through generations for hundreds of years.

Considered Production Processes

After shearing, we check and clean all our Hebridean fleeces gathered from our own and neighbouring island flocks. Our cheviot fleece is sourced from crofts in the Outer Hebrides and graded by British Wool.

Our yarn is produced in Yorkshire making use of hundreds of years of wool production knowledge.  The dye studio uses REACH compliant dyes to achieve our range of Hebridean colours ensuring safe human and environmental practices.

Combined this ensures the quality, sustainability, and traceability of our unique island yarn.

Eco-friendly Packaging

All orders are hand-wrapped in biodegradable packaging without the use of any plastics. We aim to keep our packaging simple and minimal in line with our sustainability values.

Why Wear Wool?

Wool is a responsible choice because it is 100% natural, renewable, and biodegradable. While synthetic fibres like polyester can take decades to degrade and release microplastics into the soil and ocean, wool will naturally decompose in soil within a few years, releasing nutrients back into the earth.

Wool is a high-performance natural fibre used for its unique ability to regulate body temperature, manage moisture, and resist odours. Unlike synthetic alternatives, it is a sustainable, renewable resource that offers both comfort and durability.

Key Benefits of Wearing Wool

Temperature Regulation

Wool is an "active" fibre that reacts to your body temperature. Its natural crimp creates tiny air pockets that trap heat in the cold but allow it to escape in the heat, keeping you comfortable year-round.

Moisture Management

Wool is hygroscopic, meaning it will absorb as much as 30% of its weight in water without actually being wet. When you sweat, wool fibres absorb the moisture from your skin and transport it to the surface of the fabric, where it can evaporate into the air. This keeps you dry and comfortable, even during strenuous activity.

Odour Resistance

Because it wicks away moisture so effectively, it prevents the buildup of sweat and bacteria that cause smells. Wool garments can often be worn multiple times before needing a wash.

Durability and Resilience

Wool fibres are incredibly elastic—like tiny springs—allowing them to stretch and snap back into shape. This makes wool clothing naturally wrinkle-resistant and long-lasting.

Fire Resistant

Wool is naturally flame-retardant and will not melt or stick to the skin like polyester or nylon if exposed to high heat.

UV Protection

It naturally absorbs UV radiation, providing better sun protection than many other fabrics.
