“Korpsång means 'raven’s song' in Swedish: a seemingly contradictory name given the ominous annotations the raven’s cawing have. Yet ravens do have song – their calling can be playful, mournful and beautiful in all their hoarse variables. Walking through the forest each morning, I hear a raven pair caw in threes – krrp, krrp, krrp – calling their own name over the tree tops. Korpsång binds this sound into knitting: the three repeats of the raucous call given variable form in the eyelet pattern, which also mimics the silhouette of birds in flight.”
