In Erika’s words: “A versatile, easy-to-wear and useful garment. It is easy to knit, a great way to try out new techniques and get to know new yarns. It is a lovely addition to other garments in a knitted wardrobe and can be worn all year around, even (or particularly) when working or being active outdoors. The cowl has an easy construction – you begin with a provisional cast-on, knit the cowl as a cylinder and finish it by making a half twist and then grafting the ends together.
I have knitted the cowl in two colour-ways. Colours of the moorlands such as bog cotton, peat and grass and colours from the shoreline with the sea, the fog, the seaweed, and the sky. To me, they smell of peat fire, salty salty sea, and a longing to return. When I wear the cowl, I wear a piece of the islands, landscape, the sheep, and the sea.”
