TRACEABLE

If you slowly pick your way along the shore below our croft you can find many fragments of pottery full of ‘Vintage’ patterns from the 1950’s or sponge work from the turn of the 1800’s. Hard to resist, it is so tempting to put just one more fragment in your pocket to add to that collection at home.

The Pottery Tree wrist warmers and cowl are inspired by one of these many tiny pottery fragments. Although the pottery is faded and broken, elements of the original delicate pattern are still visible. As the fragment made its way onto the beach, the rough edges became rounded and smooth, inspiring the knitted motif of a tiny tree within a white oval. The stripes on the upper sections of the cowl and wrist-warmers are reminiscent of the rolling waves that carried the pottery fragments ashore.

Our Wool

Our yarn is a limited edition, seasonal product. In the Outer Hebrides, we shear our sheep on our crofts in late June. The wool is then graded, bagged and sent to the mill for spinning. After that there is no more … the dye is set.
