Designed by Lotta Löthgren of Elk Market Yarn this beautiful Salix Alba sweater is a collaboration between our Hebridean yarn with the creative context of the forests of southern Sweden where Lotta lives.
Salix Alba ‘white willow’ is a 3/4 sleeved sweater with a circular yoke featuring a pattern resembling arrows or branches. In Swedish, the Salix tree is called a “pil”, which is also the word the Swedish use for “arrow” while Alba is the Gaelic name for Scotland. Thus Salix Alba twines together the cultures of Sweden and Scotland in trees, knitting and yarn.
The sweater is worked in one piece in the round and has short row shaping and a folded collar for a neat finish. The pattern is suitable for both experienced knitters and adventurous beginners. It can be knitted up in a high contrast for a dramatic effect (as featured in our Peaty Brown and Bog Cotton) or choose softer tones from our other Natural and Hebridean coloured yarns for a more subtle look.
Salix Alba is a circular yoke sweater knitted seamlessly from the top down. It is designed to have a relaxed fit with 10-20 cm / 4-8” of positive ease, although different looks can be achieved by choosing a size that gives you more or less ease. Short row shaping on the upper back, lower edge of the yoke and the neckband ensures a comfortable fit.
