Fingerless mitts, cowl and hat are all part of the Tiny Boats fleet! They use the same entertaining slip-stitch patterns, reminiscent of the Viking sailing ships that visited the Outer Hebrides during the 9th century, bringing with them their hardy Norse sheep. The ancestors of the Hebridean sheep we now rear on our croft today.

In Elizabeth’s own words: “A miniature fleet of boats sets sail upon a slipped stitch band. The intricate-looking pattern is deceptively simple to knit. Only one colour is worked per round, so there’s no need to carry two strands of yarn at once. Explore classic and exciting colour pairings, add a contrast edge—or for a fun variable, introduce a new colour for each set of boats! The slightly slouchy hat can also easily be customised to have more slouch, or to be a fitted beanie.”

Our Wool

Our yarn is a limited edition, seasonal product. In the Outer Hebrides, we shear our sheep on our crofts in late June. The wool is then graded, bagged and sent to the mill for spinning. After that there is no more … the dye is set.
